There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
