Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 tables.
